About Neillsville
Neillsville began in 1845, when James O'Neill and his crew cut a road through the pine forest from Black River Falls and built a sawmill on the creek that still carries his name. The mill town was picked as the seat of Clark County in 1854, and its Hewett Street filled with brick stores, banks and a drug store, many of which still stand in the downtown historic district. Travelers know it for the Wisconsin Pavilion, a twelve-sided building moved here from the 1964 New York World's Fair, with Chatty Belle, a giant talking cow, out front. Today people walk the historic homes tour, visit The Highground veterans memorial park west of town, ride ATV and snowmobile trails, and gather downtown for Heritage Days each July.
