About Maple Lake
Maple Lake takes its name from the lake beside it, named for the groves of sugar maples near its shores. Settlers came in the 1850s, many of them Irish families, a post office opened in 1858, and the village was platted in 1886. The Irish roots still show: the school teams are the Irish, and each March the town holds a St. Patrick's Day parade with the Irish Scamper 5K run. Today people come for the craft shows, the summer Makers & Growers Market and the Gear-Head Get Together, and pilots can land on the runway or right on the lake at the seaplane base.
