About Marion
Marion sits mostly in Waupaca County, with a small corner in Shawano County, and its post office has served the community since 1880. The town was named for Francis Marion, an officer in the American Revolution. It became a village in 1898 and a city in 1939. The Marion Area Historical Society, started in 1988 after a Marion High School local history class sparked the idea, keeps an old Chicago and North Western depot, a wooden Soo Line caboose, a log schoolhouse and a log house on its grounds. In summer the museum opens on Saturday afternoons, and the year ends with a Christmas evening at the museum.
