About Medina
Medina was part of the Big Woods, a thick hardwood forest dotted with lakes, where Dakota people hunted, fished and made maple sugar. The first settlers came in 1855, mostly German, Irish and French-Canadian farm families. In 1858 residents voted to rename their township Medina, after a city in the news that year. The old rail village of Hamel is still a part of town. Medina stayed a farming community for most of its history and has grown quickly since the 1970s while working to keep its rural feel.
