About Mound

Mound sits on the western shores of Lake Minnetonka, and it is named for the burial mounds that early Indigenous people made there long ago. In the early days the shore at Cooks Bay was a busy business district called Mound City, where streetcar boats stopped; the village was incorporated in 1912. Tonka Toys grew up here and was a major employer for more than 36 years. Today neighbors use 37 parks, more than 300 public dock sites and the Dakota Rail trail, and gather each July for the Spirit of the Lakes festival at Surfside Park.
