About Victoria

Victoria began in 1851 when Michael Diethelm is believed to have set up the first settler's shelter near today's St. Victoria Church. The church, built in 1857 north of Lake Bavaria, gave the city its name. Rich soil drew farmers from Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Today about 10,500 people live here, and the city calls itself the City of Lakes and Parks, with 25 parks, thirteen lakes and the big Carver Park Reserve.
