About New London
New London grew up on the Middle Fork of the Crow River and was founded in 1865. Louis Larson named it after New London, Wisconsin, because the land reminded him of his old home. For a few years after 1866 it was the seat of Monongalia County, before that county joined Kandiyohi County in 1870. Each August the town is the starting line of the New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run, a 120-mile tour for very old cars that began in 1987. Neighbors also gather for Porch Fest in early June, when bands play on front porches around town, and Sibley State Park is close by.
