About Orfordville
Orfordville is a railroad town: in 1855 J.T. Dodge laid out its streets because the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad was coming through, and the first depot went up a year later. The name came from a surveyor who picked Orford, after a town in New Hampshire, but mail kept getting mixed up with Oxford, Wisconsin, so the postmaster general suggested Orfordville. The wooden depot built in 1886, after a fire took the first one, still stands with its wide bracketed eaves and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the village is home to all of the Parkview School District's schools, and families gather at the library for storytime, summer shows and a campfire night with s'mores on the library lawn.
