About Seymour
Seymour began in 1857, when William and John Ausbourne came up the Wolf and Shioc rivers and built a log house where Black Creek meets the Shioc; the town was named in 1868 for New York governor Horatio Seymour. The railroad reached town in the early 1880s, and in 1885 Charlie Nagreen is said to have flattened a meatball between two slices of bread at the Seymour Fair, which is why Seymour calls itself the Home of the Hamburger. Every year Burger Fest brings a hamburger parade down Main Street, a Bun Run and a ketchup slide, and the fairgrounds host the Outagamie County Fair and Friday-night summer races at the speedway. Families today walk the Newton-Blackmour State Trail, visit the Seymour Community Museum on Depot Street, and bring little ones to Monday story time at the Muehl Public Library.
