About Sheboygan Falls
Sheboygan Falls took its name from the falls on the Sheboygan River, where settlers arrived in 1835 and a sawmill was soon running; for a short time the place was called Rochester. The Mill House, built in 1837 to board mill workers, was the first home for many newcomers to the county, and the Cole brothers came from New England in the 1840s to build a Yankee-style village around it. Woolen mills and a tannery grew up along the river, and their brick buildings still line the downtown historic district. Today families visit the library on Buffalo Street for storytimes and Lego Day, stroll Broadway's old storefronts, and look out over the river and its falls.
