About Slinger
Slinger began in 1845, when Baruch Schleisinger Weil, a merchant from Alsace, bought 2,000 acres here and opened a general store, and the settlement took his name, Schleisingerville. The railroad came through in 1855, the village was incorporated in 1869, and in 1921 the people voted to shorten the name to Slinger, which locals had been saying for years. It is called the village of seven hills because it sits in the Kettle Moraine, with the Little Switzerland ski hill on one slope and the Slinger Super Speedway, a steeply banked quarter-mile track opened in 1948, nearby. Today families bring lawn chairs to Music in the Park at Slinger Community Park on summer evenings and visit the free history museum beside the tracks.
