About St. Anthony

The land east of St. Anthony Falls was first claimed in 1838, and by 1872 Minneapolis had taken in most of the old town. About a thousand acres of farmland to the north kept the St. Anthony name, and in 1945 its residents voted to become a village. It grew up as a suburb about four miles from downtown Minneapolis, with Central Park near the high school and community center. Silver Lake, which lies almost entirely in the city, is home to Silverwood Park. Neighbors now gather at Silver Lake Village, a shopping area built where the old Apache Plaza mall once stood.
