About Summit Hill
Summit Hill is a compact neighborhood of about 75 blocks between Summit Avenue and Interstate 35E, with Ayd Mill Road on its west side. It is known for one of the best-kept collections of Victorian homes in the country, starting with the stone mansion businessman James C. Burbank built in 1862. Novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald once lived in an 1889 row house here, and the Tudor-style Governor's Residence on Summit Avenue was built in 1912 for the Irvine family, who later gave it to the state. Today Grand Avenue is the main street, with shops, restaurants and cafes among early 1900s brick apartment buildings, and each summer it fills for Grand Old Day.
