About Tangletown
Tangletown got its name from its winding streets, which break from the straight grid of south Minneapolis; until 1996 the city called it Fuller. Its best-known sight is the Washburn Park Water Tower, built in 1931 on one of the highest hills in south Minneapolis, with eight concrete eagles perched on top. An earlier tower stood there from 1893, built by the Washburn brothers to bring water from Minnehaha Creek to an orphanage. Washburn High School opened in the neighborhood in 1925, and its teams are still called the Millers. Today neighbors walk and bike the trails along Minnehaha Creek and meet at Fuller Park for a winter fest with bonfires and a Halloween party.
