About Thorp
Thorp grew out of the pine forest: James Seneca Boardman built a log cabin here in 1870 and made shingles to haul 50 miles by ox sled, and in 1880 the Wisconsin Central Railroad arrived and named its station after the lumberman Joseph G. Thorp. Sawmills came first, then Polish families who farmed the cutover land, and as logging faded, dairy farms and creameries took over. Thorp became a city in 1948 and is proud that Clark County is Wisconsin's top dairy county. Today families walk the main street to find more than 20 life-size painted cows, swim at the aquatic center, and turn out for Dairy Days and the demolition derby at Northside Park, Pumpkin Fest in October and the Hometown for the Holidays Christmas parade.
