About Winsted
Winsted sits on the west shore of Winsted Lake in the northeast corner of McLeod County, and it took its name from Winsted, Connecticut. A post office has run here since 1858, and the Luce Line railroad once carried freight and riders through town; today the old rail bed is the Luce Line State Trail, paved from Winsted west to Hutchinson in 2014. The town holds a winter festival with a lighted parade and a summer festival with a parade, street dance and volleyball. Since 1994 the Winstock Country Music Festival has drawn big crowds each June to raise money for the Holy Trinity Catholic school.
